The first is the text that you have on your web page and how relevant that is to what people are searching for. On-Page factors like this are the subject of this article.

The second thing the search engines look at is how popular your site is on the internet. Count the number of links from other sites? How relevant are the references? Is there a match between the text in the link and the txt on your web page? These are external settings that have a big effect on search results. They will be covered in future articles.

Off-page factors are more important than the on-page factors in determining your position in the search results, but on-page factors are still important and both have to work together to get the best results from Google or any of the search engines.

Below are what we consider to be the main 5 critically essential on-the-page search engine optimization factors:

1. Title
2. Keywords
3. Description
4. H1 Heading
5. Main Body text of the page

Title
This is a hidden field (a meta field), it should be limited to 10 words and this appears in the top ‘tab’ of the browser. This should be you main focus of your SEO work, it needs to contain off of the keywords you want to target.

Keywords
This is a hidden field. Not used any mo reby Googl but is pickedup by some of the other engnes. All of the important phrases for the website should be included. Copy the title phrases and all derivatives. Put somthing here that is the same as the phrases or keywords used in the title.

Description
A hidden field, which is picked up by Google and shown on the search page when anyone types in a search. Note the description should be a couple of English sentences but they must contain all the words in the Title.

H1 Heading
This is a type of heading on the main text of the page. H1 and Titles should correspond if at ll possible. The Heading should be a sensible English sentance incorporating all of the words used in the Title of the website.

Main body text of the page
There should be at least 400 words on the page (ideally). An even spread of keywords is important, they must appear natural and evenly distributed. The main target keyword should be spread evenly! Make sure that you don’t have more than 4% of the words used by any one keyword.
